Note:The 2017 Barbaresco Gallina is soft, open-knit and quite pretty. Sweet spice, crushed flowers, cinnamon
and macerated red cherry give the 2017 beguiling shades of nuance to match its mid-weight, translucent
expression of Nebbiolo. Best of all, the Gallina will drink well right out of the gate. This is such a pretty and
inviting Barbaresco.
BAROLO DOCG BUSSIA VIGNA MONDOCA RISERVA 2015
Year:2020
Guide:Vinous
Score:95
Note:The 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Mondoca is a gorgeous, beguiling wine that is going to need time in
bottle to be fully expressive. Deep and sumptuous in feel, the 2015 has so much potential. Time in the glass
gradually brings out attractive floral and spice notes to play off the wine's sweet red cherry and red plum
fruit. All of the transparent beauty of Nebbiolo comes through in this pretty and very promising Riserva
from Oddero. The 2015 is all class.
BAROLO DOCG 2016
Year:2020
Guide:Vinous
Score:92
Note:The 2016 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level offering in this range that also shows just how compelling the
vintage is. Deep, plush and exquisitely layered, the 2016 has so much to offer. Hints of spice, orange peel,
rose petal and tar add pretty aromatic top notes throughout. This is such an alluring and irresistible wine.
BAROLO DOCG VILLERO 2016
Year:2020
Guide:Vinous
Score:94
Note:Black cherry, cloves, melted road tar, licorice and leather all run through Oddero's 2016 Barolo Villero.
Deep on the palate with huge swaths of tannin, the Villero is a decidedly big, virile wine that is going to
need time to fully come together. I imagine it will always be a powerhouse, however. The Villero is not
especially elegant; the bombastic style clearly favors power over finesse - at least, it does today. Even so,
there is plenty of Nebbiolo character and classic, old-school austerity.
BAROLO DOCG ROCCHE DI CASTIGLIONE 2016
Year:2020
Guide:Vinous
Score:95
Note:The 2016 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a powerful, brooding wine that marries the aromatic top notes of
Rocche with the structural underpinnings of Monforte, where Oddero's small strip of vineyards lie. Iron,
smoke, incense, dried herbs and flowers give the Rocche stunning aromatic intensity. Deep and structured
in feel, the Rocche is another wine in this range that is going to need time to be at its best. Even today,
though, it is impressive.
BAROLO DOCG BRUNATE 2016
Year:2020
Guide:Vinous
Score:97
Note:The 2016 Barolo Brunate is a stunning wine that shows Oddero at their very best. Powerful and yet also
magically transparent, as only Nebbiolo can be, the Brunate captivates all the senses with a stunning
mélange of aromatic depth, richness and pure power. Hints of orange peel, mint and dried flowers develop
with time, but more than anything else, the Brunate is a Barolo that is all about nuance. Today, it is
positively dazzling. Wow!
BAROLO RISERVA VIGNA RIONDA 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:93-96
Note:Tasted from barrel, the 2015 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a gorgeous wine in the making. Silky, beautifully perfumed and nuanced, the 2015 has so much to offer. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, lavender and spice overtones all grace this exquisite, incredibly inviting Barolo.
BAROLO RISERVA BUSSIA VIGNA MONDOCA 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:91-94
Note:Oddero's 2015 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Mondoca is laced with the essence of bright red cherry, pomegranate, orange peel, spice and mint. Next to the other wines in this range, the Bussia is perhaps just a touch less complex and resonant. It will be interesting to see how much depth the 2015 picks up as it finishes its aging in barrel.
BAROLO VILLERO 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:94+
Note:The 2015 Barolo Villero is another striking wine in this range. Here it is the wine's texture and resonance that stand out most. Spice, lavender and menthol notes appear with time in the glass, but it is really the layers of depth and overall complexity that make the Villero one of the most complete wines in the range.
BAROLO ROCCHE DI CASTGLIONE 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:95
Note:The 2015 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is bright, perfumed and super-expressive, with that striking combination of aromatic intensity and structure that is such a signature of this site, especially here. Rose petal, chalk, mint and red berry fruit add to an impression of total finesse and grace. Bright, saline notes pulse through the wonderfully expressive finish in another Barolo that has so much to say.
BAROLO BRUNATE 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:94
Note:The 2015 Barolo Brunate is dark and powerful in the glass. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather and licorice give the Brunate much of its density and overall richness. This dense, packed Barolo needs at least a few years to unwind, but it is hugely promising. There is just so much going on here. Brunate is Oddero's smallest parcel, and, as a result, the wine shows a bit more oak influence than most of the other Barolos. Amazingly, the Brunate was used for the straight Barolo until 2015!
BAROLO 2015
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:92
Note:A blend of fruit from Chiesa, Capalot and Fiasco, Oddero's 2015 Barolo is vibrant, expressive and wonderfully inviting. Bright acids and lifted, floral notes lend a real sense of energy to this crystalline, super-finessed entry-level Barolo from Oddero. Translucent and weightless in the glass, but with good tannic grip, the 2015 has a ton to offer. This is a such gorgeous Barolo.
BARBARESCO GALLINA 2016
Year:2019
Guide:Vinous
Score:93
Note:The 2016 Barbaresco Gallina is gorgeous. Silky, perfumed and beautifully layered, the 2016 has much to offer. Rose petal, licorice, mint and lavender notes are nicely lifted in a silky, super-expressive Barbaresco that is going to be very hard to resist in the early going. More than anything, though, the 2016 Barbaresco is a terrific example of just how far the Oddero wines have come in the last few years.
