BAROLO BUSSIA RISERVA 2014

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17++/20
  • Note: Monforte d’Alba. Aged for two and a half years in large Stockinger oak cask of 30 hl and then aged further in concrete. ‘We decided to age it less in oak (normally we do 3 years for Vignarionda and Bussia) because of the [very rainy and cold] 2014 vintage and we will release this next year.’ Lustrous mid ruby. Minerally notes with hints of liquorice powder and iron overlaid by perfumed, cool cherry and raspberry. Elegant and succulent fruit with finely crushed tannins. Savoury fragrant finish. More elegant than powerful but with lots of class. (WS) Drink 2020 – 2028 17 ++

BAROLO ROCCHE DI CASTIGLIONE 2016

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 18/20
  • Note: Castiglione Falletto. Lustrous mid ruby with an orange tinge. Huge depth of minerally fruit with earthy, stony notes. Concentrated and pure and packed with grainy tannins. Impressive balance between firm, coating, long-lasting tannins and sappy acidity. Star quality. (WS) Drink 2024 – 2038

BAROLO VILLERO 2016

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17,5/20
  • Note: Castiglione Falletto. Total skin maceration of 25 days. Lustrous mid ruby. Perfumed, deep and concentrated with minerally, liquorice hints. Expressive, complex fruit shot through by acidity. Almost aromatic fruit finish. Sleek and elegant but with great length and framed by savoury, chewy tannins. (WS) Drink 2024 – 2036

BAROLO BRUNATE 2016

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17,5/20
  • Note: La Morra. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Perfumed, lifted and flowery cherry nose with minerally notes of iron. Subtle, still compact and a little austere on the palate. Truly elegant and long. Bags of grainy tannins complement the long, perfumed, succulent fruit. Real chew and energy on the finish. Elegant and understated and with a youthful austerity. (WS) Drink 2022 – 2034

BAROLO 2016

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17/20
  • Note: From the Bricco Chiesa and Capalot vineyards, both in La Morra, and Fiasco in Castiglione Falletto. Total skin maceration of 27 days. Grapes from the different vineyards are fermented and aged separately, the first year in Stockinger casks of Austrian oak, after which the wines are blended together and aged another year in large oak barrel, followed by six years in concrete. ‘We prefer to blend the wines when they have aged a little’. Mid ruby with orange tinges. A perfect amalgam of perfumed, sweet cherry and herb liqueur with saline hints and a touch of oak, but more like an afterthought than anything else. Succulent cherry, which ends on sour-cherry notes. Firm, finely grained bitter-sweet tannins. Concentrated and tightly knit and enormously long. (WS) Drink 2020 – 2028

BAROLO VIGNA RIONDA RISERVA 2014

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17,5/20
  • Note: Serralunga d’Alba. ‘In 2014 we didn't produce Villero [a hail storm destroyed most of the crop] and only tiny amounts of Vignarionda. We only produced 1,000 bottles of Vignarionda Riserva, and decided to age it less than our normal 10 years.’ Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Subtle and fine and with beautiful concentration. Minerally notes and hints of oak. Elegant palate with bright acidity and an almost thirst-quenching finish. Raspberry and cherry fruit and reined-in but long, coating tannins. Elegance, writ large. (WS) Drink 2020 – 2028

BARBARESCO GALLINA 2016

  • Year: 2019
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 17,5/20
  • Note: Neive. Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Attractive, tight fruit nose with savoury, minerally notes. Youthful on the palate too. Fantastic balance and plentiful while not going overboard with the fruit. Contained power. Not ready by far and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. (WS) 14% Drink 2024-2034

BAROLO ROCCHE DI CASTIGLIONE 2014

  • Year: 2018
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 16.5/20
  • Note: Mid ruby with bright orange tinges. Tobacco leaf with hints of dried cherry and something candied. A little shy, but there is real fruit underneath a layer of grainy tannins.

BAROLO BRUNATE 2014

  • Year: 2018
  • Guide: Jancis Robinson
  • Score: 16.5/20
  • Note: Mid ruby with orange tinges. Aromatic cherry with cardamom-pod hints. Supple, aromatic sour-cherry fruit and fine, grainy tannins. Lithe and long. Not for those looking for power, as this is all about elegance.
